Chatham outlasts LaSalle, 3-2
The Chatham Maroons and the LaSalle Vipers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Chatham made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.
No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Ian Faubert at 6:30 of the third period.
The win gave the Maroons a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.
Chatham was paced by Faubert, who tallied one goal and one assist.
The Maroons' offense rang up 31 shots on LaSalle's net.
Others who scored for Chatham included Trevor Richardson and Michael Levesque, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chatham received assists from Connor Annett, Nate Pietens, Charlie Izaguirre, Michael Verboom, and Adam Arseneault, who contributed one each.
The Vipers kept Chatham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jacob Keogh made 33 saves on 35 shots.
LaSalle was helped by Nathan Savage, who grabbed one goal. Savage scored on the power play 1:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 LaSalle. The Vipers had gotten the advantage when the Maroons' James McEwan was sent off for delay of game. Bryce Mayea picked up the assist. Mark Manchurek also scored for LaSalle. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Bill Eansor, Aaron Luchuk, and Devon Paliani, who each chipped in one.
Chatham incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Paolo Battisti made 28 saves for LaSalle on 31 shots. The Vipers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
